What is QRMP Scheme in GST?
The QRMP Scheme (Quarterly Return Monthly Payment Scheme) is a facility introduced by the Goods and Services Tax Network under the Goods and Services Tax that allows small taxpayers to file GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B quarterly while paying tax monthly.
This scheme was introduced to reduce the compliance burden for small businesses.
π It became effective from 1 January 2021 and is available for taxpayers with aggregate turnover up to ₹5 crore in the previous financial year.
Eligibility for QRMP Scheme
A registered taxpayer can opt for the QRMP scheme if:
Aggregate turnover is up to ₹5 crore in the previous financial year.
The taxpayer has filed the last due GST return.
The taxpayer is registered under regular GST (not composition scheme).

1. Less Compliance
Taxpayers file returns only 4 times a year instead of 12.

3. Helpful for Small Businesses
Small taxpayers can manage cash flow and compliance easily.
4. Flexible Tax Payment
Two options available for monthly tax payment:
Fixed Sum Method
Self-Assessment Method
5. Invoice Upload via IFF
Businesses can upload invoices monthly for ITC benefit to buyers.
Disadvantages of QRMP Scheme
1. Monthly Tax Payment Still Required
Even though returns are quarterly, tax must still be paid monthly.
2. ITC Delay Without IFF
If invoices are not uploaded through IFF, buyers may face delay in claiming ITC.
3. Extra Tracking Needed
Businesses must track:
Monthly payments
Quarterly returns
IFF uploads
4. Not Suitable for Large Businesses
Businesses with high invoice volume may find it difficult.
Example
If a business has ₹2 crore annual turnover:
It can opt for QRMP scheme.
It will file:
GSTR-1 → Quarterly
GSTR-3B → Quarterly
Tax Payment → Monthly (PMT-06)
